I have recently been confident that the newest Chinese-made Toyota Crown is a modified version of the Crown Majesta, the larger and more plush variant of Crown series.
Precisely saying, the Chinese new Crown is a Crown Majesta(sold only in V8/4606cc form in Japan) with familiar 2995cc V6 engine. I think it is somewhat a “sheep in wolf skin”,but Chinese market needs more dignity and size than agility in performances and handling!
That’s why Chinese market is before the stage of matureness.
I hope the new Chinese-made Crown would be equipped with a V8 engine in common with Japanese Crown Majesta as a luxury variant,if so it could be a serious rival for from the Audi A6L 4.2 to the Cadillac SLS V8.

In China, the plushest Crown, the Royal Saloon G VIP is sold for 480000yuan,roughly about $70000. It is a little cheaper than the Audi A4L 3.2 with 265bhp(195kW) output sold for 540000yuan.
One rank down, the next expensive Crown in China, the Royal Saloon costs about 430000yuan,slightly lower than the Mercedes C280 Avangarde with 231bhp(170kW) motor.
The Chinese Crown is currently on previous generation compared to Japanese model. And she is powered by 3GR-FE engine with port induction system(yielding 231bhp from 2995cc displacement),while Japanese Crown is powered by 3GR-FSE,the direct injection motor with 2995cc displacement and higher output of 256bhp.
Next Chinese Crown waiting on the wing is said to be equipped with direct injection V6 units of 3.0 and 3.5-litre displacement.
Current Chinese-made Crown powered by 3.0 litre V6 has five-star safety rating and its 231bhp power unit propels the car into 240-245km/h bracket(manufacturer data is 235km/h),so its value-for-money is excellent compared with the likes of the Volvo S80L 3.2 and the Audi A6L 3.2.
