The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) boasts a rear center console with an airbag that spreads between the rear passenger seats. A closer look at the photo shows the airbag spreading from the upper center backrest area just above the dummy’s right shoulder.
Toyota has not yet mentioned which model(s) will have the new airbag. The press release has simply stated that the SRS will be introduced in “a Toyota model to be launched in Japan in the near future.” In reality more airbags are constantly good and that a center airbag can be valuable, so that when you are driving with your parents, home on a wet, slippery night they don’t cluck their heads together when you end up rolling the car because of their ceaseless squabbling.
